ALI YAVAR JUNG NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR THE HEARING HANDICAPPED, SOUTHERN REGIONAL CENTRE, SECUNDERABAD a regional centre of AYJNIHH, Mumbai was started in the year 1986. The institute has completed more than 25 years in service delivery to the disabled. The objectives of the institute include:

  • Manpower Development: To deal with the various aspects of rehabilitation of the Hearing Handicapped, various undergraduate and post graduate courses are being offered. The Institute is rated excellent by the RCI.
  • Research: Research in the areas of identification, intervention, educational approaches, remedial teaching methods, jobs for the hearing handicapped and technology development have been carried out.
  • Educational Programmes: By studying the existing school for the deaf, curriculum followed, methods of teaching etc. and supplementing or strengthening them by way of improving existing educational facilities and developing new strategies.
  • Service Facilities: Strategies for early identification and rehabilitative procedures. films and audio visuals on vocational training and job placement, etc. are being provided.
  • Community Programmes: Identification and intervention, home bound training services are being rendered and evolved with emerging needs.
  • Material Development: Various materials developed for (a) education, like teaching aids, audio–visuals etc. (b) public awareness and community education, literacy programme for adult deaf, Parent Counseling and Programme for strengthening voluntary organisations.
  • Information and Documentation: Documenting and disseminating the latest information and developments in the field of speech and hearing.

The centre started with only two diploma level training programmes and has grown in leaps and bounds by adding graduate level programmes in education of the hearing impaired and graduate and post graduate level training programs for Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists. The institute is also recognized as study centre for Ph.D program in Speech & Hearing by SRM University, Chennai.  The centre was initially situated at Marredpally with the administrative and training programmes at Manovikasnagar.  In the year 1999-2000 on completion of its own building various activities of AYJNIHH,SRC have come under one roof.
